EMBRAER 190 JET CERTIFIED FOR OPERATING AT LONDON CITY AIRPORT

February 2, 2010 by Rob Vogelaar · Leave a Comment

Embraer has received steep approach certification for another member of its E-Jets family, the EMBRAER 190, to operate at London’s premier business airport, London City (LCY). The EMBRAER 170 received the same certification in 2007 and is currently operated by British Airways at LCY.

The EMBRAER 190 uses a software solution developed on the existing fly-by-wire system, which means better flight qualities and control, reduced pilot workload, and lower fuel consumption. The range of the EMBRAER 190 out of LCY is over 800 nautical miles (1,500 km), covering all current routes and bringing important European business destinations within reach.

British Airways’ CityFlyer, Switzerland’s Geneva-based Baboo Airlines, and Germany’s Lufthansa Cityline will be the first to operate the EMBRAER 190 out of LCY. The current aircraft fleet flying from this airport is mostly composed of old, out-of-production jets and turboprops that serve a sophisticated business public that relies on a fast and comfortable ride between the bigger European cities and London’s financial center. Because of their high level of comfort, reliability, reduced operating cost, and low emissions, the E-Jets are the perfect solution. Compared to aircraft with similar capacity now operating at LCY, the EMBRAER 190 reduces fuel burn by 25%, which is mirrored by aircraft missions and brings an additional savings of 50% in maintenance costs.

By the end of 2010, a total of 15 E-Jets are expected to be operating out of LCY, and will have transported one million passengers.

Company will promote its full portfolio at Asia’s largest aviation and defense event

São José dos Campos, January 27, 2010

Embraer will participate in the 2010 Singapore Airshow, to be held at the Changi Exhibition Center, February 2-7. Now in its tenth year in Asia Pacific, Embraer will promote its entire range of products from the airline, executive, and defense segments at chalet CD51.

The Legacy 600 and Phenom 100 executive jets will be in the static display, as well as fullscale mock-ups of the Legacy 500 – for the first time in Asia – and the Phenom 300. A Company press conference, focused on the executive aviation market, is scheduled for Monday, February 1, at 2:00 p.m., in Function Room 4.

In Asia Pacific, the Embraer’s footprint has grown steadily, since its first commercial aircraft, the Bandeirante, started flying in 1978. Today, more than 45 E-Jets – a family of jets seating 70 to 122 passengers – are in operation, with one taking off every four minutes. In 2009, these aircraft carried nearly 5 million passengers to 105 destinations and logged over 100,000 flight hours in the region, which continues to be a very important market for Embraer. In addition to airline, executive and defense aircraft sales, the Company has designated authorized service centers to provide maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO).

Embraer in Asia Pacific

Embraer’s headquarters in Asia Pacific is celebrating ten years in Singapore. However, the Company’s aircraft have been operating in the region since 1978, with the Bandeirante. In 2007, Embraer set up a world-class training center in Singapore, as well as a regional component distribution center. The Company also has field support representatives and inmarket offices located across the region, with investments totaling more than US$ 40 million.

Customers in Asia Pacific include Air North, Skippers Aviation, Network Aviation, Regional Pacific Airlines, Aerolink, and Virgin Blue (Embraer’s largest E-Jet operator in the region), from Australia; Air Rarotonga, in the Cook Islands; Southwest Air, from Papua New Guinea; Premiair, in Indonesia; Mandarin Airlines, in Taiwan; Paramount Airways, in India; JAL and Fuji Dream Airlines, in Japan; and the Royal Thai Navy and Royal Thai Army.

EMBRAER’S LEGACY 450 AND LEGACY 500 PROGRAMS MOVE FORWARD

January 25, 2010 by Rob Vogelaar · Leave a Comment

Embraer’s midlight Legacy 450 and midsize Legacy 500 executive jet development programs continue moving full ahead. The concepts were presented at the 2007 National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Annual Meeting and Convention, in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S. The Company maintains its unflagging commitment to developing these aircraft.
The second Man-Machine Interface (MMI) Advisory Board, formed by seasoned pilots and aircraft owners from around the world, was held at Embraer’s headquarters in São José dos Campos, Brazil, in the second half of 2009. The majority of the Board’s previous suggestions were implemented in the final projects of the jets, confirming Embraer’s commitment to design aircraft that meet market demands. As a result of one of the suggestions, the Company now offers a broader range of finishing materials. Guided by six different thematic panels, customers can select the interior configuration that best matches their interests, from among millions of possible combinations.

During the MMI meeting, the Audio and Video Cabin Management System (AV/CMS) – Honeywell’s Ovation ®  Select™ Full Digital, Hi-Definition, Hi-Fidelity, Hi-Speed Cabin Connection Suite – had its graphical user interface tested in a “Voice of Customer” session, which was dedicated to learning the board’s impressions regarding the system’s functionality and appearance.

Various manufacturing processes are in the testing phase. Quality and maturity tests are also being conducted to evaluate the aircraft equipment under critical flight situations, such as vibration and high altitude. Extreme conditions are simulated in advanced testing chambers at supplier and Embraer facilities. This procedure will ensure that certain part designs are already mature when the prototypes begin their test flights. Embraer steadily advances in the development of avionics and fly-by-wire flight control systems. Rigs are used to simulate the features of the Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion™ avionics, as well as the aircraft flight control system. Through the use of computational flight simulation, fly-by-wire control laws are tested and verified by pilots and engineers well before any airplane prototype is built.
Production has begun on the Legacy 500’s first parts. The nose and main landing gear forgings arrived at Heroux-Devtek, in Canada and began to be machined. Meggitt performed the first forgings for the wheels and brakes. Belgium’s Sonaca began the first trials for stretching the rear fuselage panels at its facilities in the city of Gosselies. The selection of suppliers continues.

Embraer’s commitment to the environment is built into the design of the Legacy 450 and the Legacy 500. The aircraft will comply with worldwide certification limits for aviation noise and emissions, as established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP), and with very significant margins.

The certification process is well underway with Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil – ANAC), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the U.S., and the European Aviation Safety Association (EASA).

About the Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 executive jets

Based on concepts presented in 2007 and formally launched in 2008, the midlight Legacy 450 and midsize Legacy 500 set new paradigms in their respective executive jet categories. Their interiors  were designed in partnership with BMW Group DesignworksUSA, and offer unequaled comfort and style. These aircraft will have the largest and quietest cabin in their classes. A flat-floor standup (6-foot) cabin, excellent pressurization, and vacuum lavatories are other highlights of the Legacy 450 and Legacy 500, complementing their superior performance and low operating costs.

The new-generation Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion™ avionics system will provide extensive situational awareness with a highly intuitive interface. Honeywell’s HTF7500E stateof- the-art engines incorporate the latest technologies for meeting performance requirements with improved efficiency, in terms of fuel consumption, facilitated maintenance, low operating costs, and reduced noise and pollution emissions. The jets will be the fastest in their categories and the only ones equipped with cutting-edge fly-by-wire electronic flight controls that increase operating safety and passenger comfort, while reducing pilot workload and fuel consumption.

The Legacy 450 is designed to carry up to nine passengers. Its range will be 2,300 nautical miles (4,260 km) with four passengers, or 2,200 nautical miles (4,070 km) with eight passengers, and Mach 0.78, both including NBAA IFR fuel reserves, meaning the jet will be able to fly nonstop from London (U.K.) to Moscow (Russia) or Rabat (Morocco); from Delhi (India) to Dubai (United Arab Emirates) or Hong Kong; or from Jakarta (Indonesia) to Calcutta (India).

The Legacy 500 will carry up to nine passengers. It is designed for a range of 3,000 nautical miles (5,560 km) with four passengers, or 2,800 nautical miles (5,190 km) with eight passengers, and Mach 0.80, both including NBAA IFR fuel reserves. These characteristics will allow customers to fly nonstop from New York to Los Angeles, in the U.S.; or from Moscow (Russia) to Mumbai (India).

Executive Flight Services receives Embraer light jet in São José dos Campos, Brazil

São José dos Campos, January 6, 2010

Embraer has begun delivering its recently certified Phenom 300 executive jet, just one year after the first Phenom 100 customers received their aircraft. The first Phenom 300 was delivered at the Company’s headquarters, on December 29, 2009, to Executive Flight Services, a wholly owned aircraft management subsidiary of Executive AirShare, which received the aircraft on behalf of an undisclosed customer.

“As the first FAA Part 135 operator to take delivery of the Phenom 300, Executive Flight
Services will be managing an aircraft that has met all design specifications and improved on
its targets, in terms of runway take-off length, range, speed, and landing distance, making it
the ideal tool for corporate use in this category,” said Ernest Edwards, Embraer Vice
President, Marketing and Sales, USA, Mexico and the Caribbean – Executive Jets.

“The Embraer delivery team has attended to every detail to ensure a smooth delivery of this
aircraft,” said Keith D. Plumb, President and Chief Operating Officer, Executive AirShare.
“As the world’s leading operator of Phenom 100 aircraft, we have been extremely pleased
with the performance and low direct operating costs of this entry level jet, and hold similarly
high expectations for the Phenom 300.”

In preparation for entering service, Embraer CAE Training Services (ECTS), based in Dallas,
Texas, successfully qualified four Phenom 300 customer pilots, in December 2009, to operate
the new Embraer Phenom 300 jet. Due to the level of commonality between the Phenom
aircraft models, and because all pilots had previously obtained their Phenom 100 type ratings,
only a transition course for the Phenom 300 was required.
