The United States has facilitated the deal to sell eight Black Hawk helicopters to Tunisia as part of its security assistance to the country, the White House announced in a statement on Thursday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The White House also said it is seeking to provide an additional $30 million in Foreign Military Financing to Tunis in 2015, a 50 percent increase compared to 2014.

Tunisia’s newly elected president in Beji Caid Essebsi is currently in Washington, DC. On Thursday, he met with US President Barack Obama in the Oval office, becoming the first democratically elected Tunisian president to visit the White House.

Black Hawk helicopters are produced by Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, a US company based in Statford, Connecticut. More than 2,300 Black Hawks have been sold to 25 countries around the world over the past 30 years, according to the company’s website.
