Feather Flight and Nitrous Vent Test Success

SpaceShip Two venting Nitrous

Pictured above: Vapor is seen billowing from Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo
(SS2) as part of the space vehicle’s in-flight nitrous venting test on April
3rd. During the test, Virgin Galactic carried SS2 aloft while mated to its
carrier vehicle, WhiteKnightTwo (WK2). Once at target altitude, SS2 successfully
discharged its onboard supply of nitrous oxide. Following the nitrous test, SS2
was released from WK2 and conducted a successful feather-flight in which the
vehicle’s booms were rotated to reentry configuration and back. The Spaceship
then made a successful landing on the runway at Mojave Air and Spaceport. All
objectives of the test were successfully met.
