French investigation agency says black box of crashed AF447 found

PARIS, May 1 (Xinhua) — One of the black boxes of the crashed Air France flight 447 has been found off Brazil, France’s Bureau of Investigation and Analysis into civil aviation accidents or incidents (BEA) announced on Sunday.

“The investigation team localized and identified the memory unit from the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) at 10:00 UTC this morning, ” the accident investigation agency said in a statement.

“It was raised and lifted on board the ship Ile de Sein by the Remora 6000 ROV at 16:40 UTC,” the statement added.

On June 1, 2009, an Airbus A330 plane of Air France crashed into the Atlantic about 1,200 kilometers off the coast of Brazil on its route to Rio de Janeiro from Paris. All the 228 people on board were killed.

In early April, French Transport Ministry said “an important part” of the crashed Air France flight 447 was located, which gave the hope to find recording boxes of the plane.
