Rolls-Royce wins $200 million Trent 700 order from Turkish Airlines

Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, has won a $200m order from Turkish Airlines for Trent 700 engines to power three Airbus A330 freighter aircraft. The contract includes a TotalCare® long-term service agreement.

The aircraft, which will be delivered between 2012-2014, are in addition to two Rolls-Royce powered A330 freighters previously ordered, one of which is now in service. Turkish Airlines now has a total of 16 Rolls-Royce powered A330 passenger and freighter aircraft in service or on order to support its growth strategy.

The Trent 700 is the engine of choice in both passenger and freighter markets, with a near-90 per cent share of the latter. Overall, the engine has captured more than 75 per cent of orders for the A330 in the last three years.

Hamdi Topcu, Chairman, Turkish Airlines, said: “Our first Trent 700 powered A330s entered service last September and we have been pleased with both the environmental and efficiency benefits of the engine technology and the support offered through TotalCare® .”

Nick Devall, Rolls-Royce Chief Commercial Officer – Civil Aerospace, said: “The Trent 700 is the only engine specifically designed for the A330 and delivers significant payload benefits in operation. Following our flawless entry into service last year, I look forward to our relationship continuing to develop.”
